TIM POWERS'

ALUMNI OF THE YEAR

AWARD

Honoring the achievements, leadership and lasting impact of Newburyport High School Baseball alumni.

Tim Powers
ABOUT TIM POWERS

Tim was a two-year, All Cape Ann League player in both baseball and football. As a baseball player, Tim was one of the Clippers' greatest left-handed power hitters of all time. He hit .317 and .314 in two seasons for two NHS CAL championship teams and set the program record for RBIs in a single season with 32 in1976, a record that stood until 2009.

A six-foot, four-inch first baseman, he helped save many errant throws from NHS infielders. Besides making the All-CAL team in 1976 he was voted Co-MVP of the Clippers by his peers. He also was the second player in NHS history to win both the "Offensive" and "Defensive" Achievement awards in the same season. Tim went to on to play a couple of years at UMass Amherst where he was the captain of the 1978 JV team.

One year after his untimely death in 2008, Newburyport's Baseball Alumni Association recognized Tim as one of their Persons of the Year and named this prestigious award the "Tim Powers NHS Baseball Alumni Person of the Year Award".
